FAQS

Q: What events are a part of The Territorial Christmas celebration?

A: The season begins with a lighted parade the last Saturday in November. After the parade wraps up everyone gathers near the steps of the post office where the tree lighting ceremony takes place and the winners of the governors races are announced.
The next two events of the season take place on the first Saturday in December. A Historic Homes Tour in the morning allows a peak into some of the most lavish and stylish homes in Guthrie and the evening is host to the first downtown Victorian walk.
The second Victorian walk takes place the following Saturday.

Q: How can I be a part of the lighted Christmas parade?

A: For vehicles/floats to enter they should be at least 80% covered in lights or display a prominent Christmas theme. All floats must be family friendly. A parade entry form is available on the website or email any questions to guthrieterritorialchristmas@gmail.com

Q: How does one run for a Territorial governor position?

A:Territorial Governor nominations may be made by email to guthrieterritorialchristmas@gmail.com no later than September 15th.

Q: What happens during the Victorian Walk?

A: The Victorian Walk encompasses over 6 blocks of the historic downtown Guthrie area. The streets are closed to cars, allowing entertainers and reenactors to provide a peak into what it would have looked like a century ago. The Victorian Walks are always the 1st and 2nd Saturdays in December from 5-9pm We host two Walk evenings in case of bad weather. Most, if not all, of the windows and activities will be present both weeks.

Q: Is there a cost to attend?

A: There is no cost to come to the Walks! Some activities may have a charge associated as businesses and vendors set their own prices. We encourage you to bring some spending money because you are sure to find trinkets or food to enjoy throughout the evening.

Note: We cannot regulate what private businesses sell or entertainment they provide in their own establishment, we can only regulate vendors and entertainment on the streets and sidewalks.

Q: Do we have to dress up to attend?

A: Guests are not required to dress in Victorian costume, but we happily encourage everyone to participate. For more information regarding event dress, see our costume inspiration page.

Q: Do you have costumes for rent or purchase?

A: The Territorial Christmas Foundation does not offer any costumes for rent. Please see our
costume page we have a few vendors listed where you can purchase or rent a costume.

Q: What are living windows?

A: Businesses in the downtown district host scenes of Victorian life in their front windows using live people in costume! Everything from live historical music to painting, to Victorian mothers reading Christmas stories to their children. Stroll Guthrie’s red brick sidewalks and enjoy the spectacle!

Q: We want to be in a window who do we contact?

A: Window participation is completely up to the shop owner’s discretion. If you would like to participate in a window you must wear your own costume or rent one from the vendors on the costume page and set up your own scene, a historically accurate costume is required for participation. We suggest approaching the businesses directly if you would like to use their window.

Q: Can I sell things at the Victorian Walks?

A: To cultivate a Victorian/Territorial experience, we do not allow street vendors without prior permission from the Foundation. Examples of period-appropriate street vendors: Boy Scouts selling peanuts, Cub Scouts selling handmade chili and cobbler, and Logan County Historical Society selling pies. Anyone selling items on the streets at Victorian Walks without Foundation approval will be asked to leave. If you are a modern vendor we do have designated areas for you to set up. If you would like to submit a vendor request, please email us at guthrieterritorialchristmas@gmail.com and we will direct you accordingly.
